In October 2024, Wayne County, Michigan, experienced a significant cyberattack that disrupted numerous government services. The attack disabled all county websites, affecting operations such as property tax payments, case management, and estate sales. The judicial system was also impacted, hindering inmate processing and court scheduling.
Subsequently, in February 2025, the Interlock ransomware group claimed responsibility for a breach involving Wayne County. The group allegedly exfiltrated over 130 SQL databases containing sensitive information, including resident data, bank account details, and criminal records . This data was reportedly leaked on March 1, 2025, raising serious concerns about privacy and potential misuse.
