In late 2025, Summit College suffered a significant ransomware attack attributed to the cybercriminal group KAIROS. Following a comprehensive forensic analysis of the compromised 370GB dataset, security researchers have finalized the scope of the exposure. The breach affects a wide cross-section of students, faculty, and administrative staff, with the confirmed exfiltration of 51,700 unique email addresses, 34,600 unique Social Security numbers, and 92,600 unique phone numbers. The high volume of SSNs and direct contact information places victims at immediate risk of identity theft and targeted SMS phishing (smishing). Impacted individuals are urged to place a fraud alert on their credit files and remain vigilant against unsolicited communications referencing college matters.
