In December 2012, the multiplayer online battle arena game Heroes of Newerth experienced a significant data breach. Hackers infiltrated the game's systems and extracted data from over 6.9 million accounts. The compromised information included usernames, email addresses, and passwords.
The breach was publicly acknowledged by S2 Games, the developer of Heroes of Newerth, on December 17, 2012.
