In early 2021, Carding Mafia—a notorious online forum used by cybercriminals to trade stolen credit card data—suffered a significant data breach that exposed the personal account details of nearly 300,000 users. Attackers exploited a vulnerability in the forum’s software, gaining unauthorized access to its database and extracting sensitive information including email addresses, usernames, IP addresses, and passwords stored as salted MD5 hashes. While the specific identity of the hackers remains unknown, the breach is believed to have originated from a zero-day vulnerability, enabling rapid and extensive data exfiltration.
