On July 8, 2018, Bookmate—a well-known social ebook subscription service—suffered a significant data breach that compromised nearly 4 million user records. The breach exposed sensitive information including email addresses, full names, dates of birth, and genders, along with passwords that were stored as salted SHA‑512 hashes.
