In December 2021, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd (ABFRL) suffered a data breach by the hacker group ShinyHunters, compromising approximately 4.4 million customers' personal information, including email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, dates of birth, order histories, and passwords stored using the MD5 hashing algorithm. Employee details such as salary information, religions, and marital statuses were also exposed. After unsuccessful ransom negotiations, the hackers publicly released around 700 GB of data online.
